Sacramento River salmon opener was pretty good on my end as you can see by the picture, Hell I even caught one myself. The big chinook were biting on slver and green K16 and T50 with a sardine wrap. The river is very low and we saw several boats stuck on gravel bars. I think over all the opener was ok to good but my group happened to have an exceptional day. Boats were scattered and it wasnt too crowded. Now pray for rain and go catch one of these big gorgeous chinook. |

The late fall run Sacramento river salmon season opens next Monday Nov 16th and runs through Dec 31st. The river looks in great shape but a little rain would really help get the salmon moving up here. I fish from Ord Bend to Woodson bridge where most of the fish are caught on big Quickfish and flatfish in various colors. If fish are holding roe can also be good but the fish are usually on the move through this stretch. Stealth is the key here with low clear water so keep your big engine off and try not to spook the fish. All ramps are open including Ord Bend but you will suck up a lot of moss in the jet getting out of the slough and have to clean the jet out before heading up or down river. We should see a mix of old and new fish for the first week. The older ones may be fall run fish still holding so you should let them go, especially the hens for obvious reasons. Good luck to all and I am open for business if you want to book a trip. I got drawn for california pronghorn at Likely tables this year. Check out my trophy. |

Shad fishing on the sacramento river here near Chico has broken open. You should be able to find very good fishing minutes from any launch or the usual shore spots. Here are a couple pictures from yesterdays trip. This young fisherman caught his first Shad and then managed to land about 10 or 12 more. Way to go Seth. |

| 4 hour shad trips are just $75.00 each, 2 person minium. |

Stripers are scattered throughout the Sacramento river now, the biggest concentration around tisdale to colusa but so are all the boats. Shad should be moving into the chico area soon, they are in the sac area now. Coho fishing sucks this year at lake oroville but the bass are off the hook. I think last years small coho plants got eaten by the bass as only a few of the bigger ones from the year before are being caught. Its abalone time which is where I have been. Easy limits of mostly 8 inchers and one 9 incher provided for lots of good eating to go with lots of drinking with good friends. |

Well, as all of you salmon fisherman know the sacramento run last year was dismal to say the least. This years seasons or lack there of will be set in April. It doesnt look good for any season at all but who knows what the experts will decide. The good news is we are getting some rain and the lakes are coming up. The cohos should be biting in lake Oroville in March or April. The stripers will be in the Rivers in April and the Shad will arrive in late May. Here is a late season Sac salmon caught in December and a Smith river steelhead caught from shore in Feb. |
